Whiplash is the kind of film that reminds me why I love movies. The story felt confident, focused, and rewarding the whole way through. One of the strongest titles I have watched in a long time.

Whiplash worked for me in pieces more than as a whole. The performances are solid, but the emotional impact feels inconsistent. Not bad, just not especially memorable.
